Cheap Books Online

If you love to read as much as I do, you already know that books have become very, very expensive. I used to buy new books all the time. But when my family realized that we needed to save more money, I had to cut back drastically.

But since I didn't want to give up reading altogether, I had to find less expensive ways to get my hands on new reading material. Here are a few tips that you can follow to save money on books and magazines:

1. Go to your local library. This one doesn't work so well for me because the location and hours of the nearest library are not very convenient for me. But if you have a branch nearby, you can save money by checking out books rather than buying them.

2. Shop online. You will usually pay much less for books if you shop at a major online retailer such as Amazon.com. They regularly offer free shipping, and the prices are usually less even if you do pay the shipping costs.

3. Book clubs are a great way to save money on books. There are all sorts of clubs out there that cater to every genre you can think of, including history, cooking, science fiction, and mystery. They usually offer a tremendous deal to get you to join. Typical savings would be getting 4 books for just $1 each. Sometimes you will have to purchase additional books at regular prices, but many clubs offer the 4 for $1 deal with no strings attached. Check out Booksonline.com for a selection of book clubs that you can join.

4. Cancel subscriptions to magazines you don't need. My family was spending about $350 a year on magazines and newspapers that we rarely even had time to read. We canceled most of them and barely noticed they were missing. We did notice the savings though.

5. On the other hand, if there is a magazine that you buy regularly, you can save money by becoming a subscriber. Online discounters sell subscriptions to a wide range of magazines at huge discounts. If you are going to buy the magazine anyway, you might as well save money while you do so. Use the link below to see how much you can save...

Making Money with Books

If you have a bunch of old books that you no longer want, consider selling them through ebookdrop.com. Just enter the ISBN number on the back of the book and they will offer you a price. Not all books are in demand so they may not offer you anything. But you may be able to get up to six or seven dollars for books you have no use for.

Once you enter all the books you want to unload, you simply go to checkout and print out a mailing label (ebookdrop pays all shipping costs) and drop the books in the mail. In about two weeks, they send you a check.

If you are more interested in obtaining new reading material than making extra money, you should try PaperBackSwap.com Paperbackswap is basically a network of book lovers who trade books with one another. Here's how it works:

You list a bunch of books that you are willing to trade. You automatically receive 3 free credits that allow you to request a book that another member has listed. That member then sends you the book for free. You don't even pay the shipping.

If a member requests one of the books that you have listed, you promise to send it to them for free. In exchange, you get another credit for a free book. So you will always be three books ahead of the game!
