$5 gas??

The article below is from CNN. It predicts that gas prices in the US could hit $5/gallon if Hurricane Rita hits Texas as hard as they say it will.

A buddy of mine drives 60 miles each day to work and then 60 miles back home. Even at a generous 30 miles per gallon, it will cost him $20 a day in gas just to get to work and back.

Top Ten Family Friendly Companies

According to Working Mother magazine, these are the top ten family friendly companies:

Bristol-Myers Squib
Eli Lilly
General Mills
Hewlett-Packard
IBM
JFK Medical Center
PriceWaterhouseCoopers
Prudential Financial
SC Johnson & Son
Schering-Plough

The companies named were cited for reasons such flexible work schedules, paid maternity and paternity leave, and the ability to take a leave from work.

These are valuable benefits that not all companies offer. They should be considered if you are looking for work and either have a family or are planning to start one.

Banks Asked to Return Katrina Mortgages

In a sign of good faith support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, Freddie Mac has asked banks to return September mortgage payments made by anyone in the stricken areas.

To those people who have lost everything they own, this will certainly not replace what was lost. But it may go a little way toward helping them get through this tough time.

Good move Freddie Mac.

Great Resources for Making Extra Money

In my last post I made some suggestions for making extra money. Making money at home is a something many people dream of doing but often don't know how to get started.

Here are some resources that I recommend to people who are interested in making extra money but not sure where to begin...

Getting paid to take surveys online is an easy way to supplement your income without much effort.
Mystery Shopping. Learn how to get paid cash and freebies for shopping at stores you would go to anyway!
Creating your eBook and selling it online is a method I used with my eBook about How to Save Money. EBooks are the wave of the future. Pick a topic or hobby that interests you and start making money from it!
